Job summary

Berrien County Jail in St. Joseph, Michigan is seeking a Permanent Full-Time Lead Cook to lead the kitchen team and assist with meal preparation in a structured correctional facility. The role emphasizes following recipes, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, and working well with others.

Salary ranges from $39,000 to $42,000 annually, with medical, dental & vision insurance, a 401(k), and PTO. Training is provided for the right candidate who has the right attitude and work ethic.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous kitchen or food service experience is preferred.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to read and follow recipes and written instructions.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Flexibility to work weekends and holidays.
• Must be able to obtain clearance approval to enter the facility.

Responsibilities

• Leading, directing, and assisting inmates within the kitchen
• Prepare, bake, and cook meals according to company recipes
• Assist with meal planning and preparation
• Follow all company policies, procedures, and food safety standards
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen
• Assist with kitchen clean-up and other daily duties
• Work effectively within a structured correctional facility
