Job summary

The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services in Jessup, MD is seeking a Supervisor for Correctional Supply Officers to oversee warehousing, inventory, and distribution at the Jessup Correctional Institution. You will train inmates, manage requisitions, and ensure security and cost controls.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma and two years of supervisory warehousing experience, with a possible substitution of military service for experience.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Correctional Training Commission regulation.
• Experience: Two years supervising custody, security and supervision of inmate workers in storekeeping/warehousing operations.
• Notes: Military service for required experience may be substituted at a rate of two years for the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervises lower-level Correctional Supply Officers engaged in storekeeping and warehousing; trains new workers; assigns and reviews work; handles hiring/promotions/discipline; explains policies; approves leave; conducts performance evaluations.
• Receives and processes requisitions for stock replacement to monitor flow of supplies across departments.
• Disburses and accounts for supplies, materials and equipment issued to inmates and staff to prevent theft and maintain fiscal/security controls.
• Contacts vendors to obtain bids or resolve questions about supply purchases.
• Supervises inmate workers to prevent theft, identify breaches of security, and evaluate job performance.
