Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services is seeking candidates for a Correctional Maintenance Officer I – Grounds Supervision at the Jessup Correctional Institution in Jessup, MD. The role focuses on landscaping, upkeep of outdoor areas, and supervising incarcerated workers on the grounds crew.

Responsibilities include enforcing safety rules, supervising inmates, and coordinating maintenance tasks with attention to quality standards.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education.
• Two years of grounds supervision experience.
• Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in correctional institutional specialty codes in the criminal justice field of work for the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervise inmate workers and maintain discipline; conduct searches for contraband.
• Enforce safety, sanitary, custody and security rules and regulations.
• Train and instruct inmates in grounds tasks and tool use.
• Estimate time, materials, and supplies needed for tasks; order and inventory supplies.
• Escort third party vendors and inspect completed work assignments.
• Oversee landscape upkeep and supervise grounds crew activities.
