Job summary

The NC Department of Adult Correction is seeking a Correctional Sergeant I to supervise lower-level custody staff, assign posts, and manage shift coverage in a demanding correctional environment in North Carolina. The role requires adherence to strict policies, training, and safety protocols.

Responsibilities include ensuring security, conducting drills, preparing reports, and participating in evaluations and disciplinary actions, with a full-time schedule and state benefits.

Qualifications

• Must meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
• Pass a criminal background check
• Produce a negative drug screening result
• Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
• Possess a valid driver's license

Responsibilities

• Oversee custody staff performance and ensure the custody, security and welfare of offenders is maintained.
• Arrange work schedules to ensure shift coverage and enforce procedures according to policy.
• Ensure staff are trained and conduct evaluations/disciplines as needed.
• Maintain facility security through inspections and compliance with regulations and safety standards.
• Lead staff during drills, searches, emergencies and tactical assignments, and respond to incidents.
