Job summary

Oklahoma Department of Corrections is hiring Correctional Security Officers to maintain security, control and custody across state facilities. New hires attend an 8-week live-in academy in Oklahoma City from Sunday 6:00 PM to Thursday 6:00 PM, then return home on weekends.

Lodging and meals are provided; assignments depend on facility and county preferences. Candidates must meet statutory education and training requirements and may be designated as peace officers upon certification.

Qualifications

• Education and experience requirements are specified in Title 57 O.S. §510.A.2; minimum age 20; GED or college hours may substitute for diploma.
• Possession of thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university; or a high school diploma or GED and completion of a training course.
• Applicants must meet physical and testing requirements and possess a valid driver’s license; may be required to undergo drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Provide security and supervision to inmates and manage posts.
• Escort inmates to work sites and control equipment and keys.
• Patrol assigned areas, observe inmate activity, and enforce rules and discipline.
