Job summary

NC Dept. of Adult Correction is seeking a Correctional Sergeant I to supervise officers, plan schedules, assign posts, and safeguard offenders in a state facility. The role requires overseeing activities and maintaining welfare in custody environments.

The position emphasizes enforcement of prison policies, staff mentoring, and conducting regular inspections with potential shift work and weekend coverage.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; two years' experience as a correctional officer or equivalent.
• Eligible for certification by NC CJETSC.
• Background check, drug screen, and medical/psych evaluations required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Correctional Officers, plan work schedules and posts.
• Instruct officers and complete performance evaluations.
• Disseminate policies and procedures to staff and offenders.
• Conduct tours to ensure discipline and safety.
• Supervise offender counts and records for custody integrity.
• Inspect offender quarters for contraband and safety.
