Job summary

State of West Virginia is seeking a Corrections Sergeant to supervise a shift, assign duties, and oversee inmate movement and searches within a secure facility. You will ensure policy compliance, coordinate counts, and interact with staff, inmates and visitors to maintain order and safety.

The position requires completion of the academy, transition duties, and may involve overtime and travel to other DCR facilities across the state.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a standard high school or the equivalent.
• Four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a correctional officer, probation/parole officer, military police, or related field.
• Substitution: college coursework may substitute for the required experience at 1 year per 30 hours.

Responsibilities

• Supervise subordinates, assign duties, and conduct roll calls for shift changes.
• Initiate and supervise searches of the facility, inmates, and visitors.
• Perform inmate counts and monitor inmate location and status.
• Maintain security over inmates, interact with staff, visitors and the public.
• Ensure compliance with policy and procedures and participate in mandatory overtime as required.
