Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must be 19 years of age or older.
• Provide BAT certification or associate degree or higher.
• U.S. citizenship at appointment; valid driver license; pass background checks.

Responsibilities

• Stands watch in halls or wall towers to control movement of inmates.
• Supervises groups of inmates on work details in kitchens, shops, laundries, recreation areas; instructs inmates performing assignments; checks in/out inmates.
• Inspects quarters for safety and sanitary conditions and for presence of contraband; searches inmates and visitors for contraband.
• Maintains alert; inspects doors, fences, and other security equipment; conducts counts and reports.
• Drives transfer vehicle and inspects safety equipment.
• Explains rules, procedures, and available services to inmates; assists inmates with personal problems, education, and work assignments.
• Observes inmate behavior and submits evaluation reports; instructs inmates in personal hygiene, discipline, and etiquette.
