Job summary

The State of Florida Department of Corrections seeks a Correctional Officer Lieutenant for the Northwest Florida Reception Center in Chipley, Florida. This is an internal promotional opportunity for current FDC employees.

Salary will be determined in accordance with current pay procedures. The Lieutenant will supervise Correctional Officers and Sergeants, coordinate security operations across shifts, and serve as initial commander during emergencies, including crisis intervention and facility

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Must have completed the basic recruit training course for correctional officers.
• Must have one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida.
• Must not have received a suspension within the past 12 months.
• Must not have received an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months.
• Must not have received less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years.

Responsibilities

• Supervises Correctional Officers and Correctional Officer Sergeants assigned to a shift.
• Serves as initial commander during emergency situations.
• Functions as facility manager during non-administrative hours.
• Plans, organizes and coordinates activities of all officers on a shift.
• Delegates post assignments and coordinates leave and attendance reports.
• Conducts periodic counseling and may recommend disciplinary actions.
• Supervises searches for contraband and builds inspections.
• Manages inmate housing areas and enforces rules.
• Provides crisis intervention and emergency response, including CPR.
• Attends mandatory training.
