Job summary

State of Florida—Department of Corrections seeks a CORRECTIONAL OFFICER LIEUTENANT at Jackson Correctional Institution for an internal promotional opportunity. The position supervises Correctional Officers and Sergeants and serves as the initial commander during emergencies.

Candidates must be a current Florida employee with recruit training and one year of certified officer experience, meeting minimum qualifications and applying via People First by the closing date.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• U.S. citizen.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Completed basic recruit training for correctional officers and have one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida.
• Must not have a suspension in the past 12 months.
• Must not have an involuntary demotion in the past 24 months.
• Must not have fewer than a 3.00 rating on performance evaluations in the past 3 fiscal years.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Correctional Officers and Sergeants on assigned shifts.
• Act as initial incident commander during emergencies; manage non-administrative hours.
• Plan, organize and coordinate security post assignments and leave reports.
• Conduct regular inspections and supervise searches for contraband.
• Coordinate training and conduct performance evaluations.
• Oversee inmate housing, transport within parameters, and head counts.
• Provide crisis intervention and enforce safety procedures.
