Job summary

State of Florida is seeking a Correctional Officer Lieutenant for the Okeechobee Correctional Institution in Okeechobee, Florida. The role supervises correctional staff, coordinates security across shifts, and serves as the initial commander during emergencies.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have completed the basic recruit training course for correctional officers and have one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida.
• Must not have received a suspension within the past 12 months.
• Must not have received an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months.
• Must not have received less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years.

Responsibilities

• Supervises Correctional Officers and Correctional Officer Sergeants on assigned posts across shifts.
• Acts as initial commander during emergencies and as facility manager during non-administrative hours.
• Plans, coordinates, and assigns post duties, leave usage, and attendance reports; ensures security coverage.
• Conducts counseling and may initiate disciplinary actions with higher management.
• Oversees searches for contraband, inspections of buildings/grounds, and security surveillance.
• Schedules training programs and conducts ongoing security procedure training for subordinates.
• Supervises body cavity searches as authorized; may apply use of force per policy.
• Manages inmate housing, transports inmates with restraints, and performs head counts and outside-authorized escorts.
• Performs crisis intervention, emergency response, CPR/first aid, and evacuation procedures.
