Job summary

State of Florida, Department of Corrections, seeks a Correctional Officer Sergeant for Apalachee Correctional Institution. This is an internal promotional opportunity; only current FDC employees will be considered. Salary will be determined per current pay procedures.

The incumbent supervises inmates, enforces rules, conducts housing-area management, and may perform crisis intervention with appropriate use of force. Mandatory training is required.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have completed the basic recruit training course for correctional officers and have one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida.
• Must not have received a suspension within the past 12 months.
• Must not have received an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months.
• Must not have received less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years.

Responsibilities

• Supervises inmates and manages housing areas, enforcing rules and sanitation.
• Transports inmates using restraints and follows relevant laws and policies.
• Conducts head counts and maintains custody outside the secured perimeter.
• Performs crisis intervention and may use force per policy.
• Maintains facility security, including searches of inmates and property.
• Provides emergency assistance including CPR and evacuation procedures.
• Directs Officers in supervising inmates and preparing reports.
• Attends mandatory training and performs other related duties.
