The incumbent supervises Correctional Officers and Sergeants, manages security post coverage, and serves as initial commander during emergencies. Responsibilities include organizing shifts, training staff, conducting performance evaluations, enforcing rules, and coordinating disciplinary

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have completed the basic recruit training course for correctional officers and have one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida.
• Must not have received a suspension within the past 12 months.
• Must not have received an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months.
• Must not have received less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes and coordinates the activities of all Correctional Officers and Correctional Officer Sergeants assigned to a shift.
• Deligates post assignments, specific duty assignments, coordinates leave use and ensures accurate completion of attendance and leave reports.
• Works with employees to ensure proper security coverage.
• Conducts performance evaluations and coordinates training programs for subordinates.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

Basic recruit training course for correctional officers

One year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida
