Job summary

The State of Florida is seeking a Correctional Officer Captain at Taylor Correctional Institution in Perry, FL. This internal promotional opportunity is limited to current FDC employees, with duties including supervision of officers and sergeants and acting as the initial Commander during emergencies.

Duties include planning assignments, coordinating leave, supervising searches, and maintaining security and sanitation.

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Be a U.S. citizen.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must have completed the basic recruit training course for correctional officers and one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida.
Must not have received a suspension within the past 12 months.
Must not have received an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months.
Must not have received less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years.

Responsibilities

Supervise Correctional Officers and Correctional Officer Sergeants on assigned shifts.
Serve as initial Commander during emergencies and plan, organize, and coordinate shift activities.
Delegate post and duty assignments, coordinate leave, ensure attendance and leave reports.
Work with lead officers to ensure security coverage and conduct counseling as needed.
Supervise searches for contraband, inspect facilities, and maintain sanitation standards.
Manage inmate housing areas, transport inmates with proper restraints, and conduct head counts.
Perform training, disciplinary actions, and incident reporting as required.
