Description of Work
Responsibilities
Reporting to and working closely with the Correctional Captain III, this position provides supervision for subordinate staff regarding their assigned tasks with male offenders in a Minimum/Medium/Close custody state correctional facility. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Providing supervision for subordinate staff, conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments, and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
- Conducting investigations and performing searches of persons, places, and objects.
- Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty roster, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
- Performing security inspections of the facility and grounds, monitoring posts to ascertain that officers are alert, that discipline is being maintained, and that assignments are carried out properly.
- Performing rescue functions to include CPR, basic first aid, physically removing people from dangerous areas, and using fire-fighting equipment to include fire hoses, extinguishers, and breathing apparatuses.
- Identifying training needs and coordinating delivery of training to subordinate staff.
- Accounting for persons and funds and ensuring that all equipment is operationally ready for use.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant

Necessary Special Qualifications
MUST be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.

Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 19,000 employees.
