About Us

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work

• 1. Assuming responsibility for the overall management of the correctional housing unit.
• 2. Providing leadership and guidance to subordinate staff and ensuring staff are alert, properly trained, informed and prepared to perform their job responsibilities under a variety of conditions.
• 3. Coordinating work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing operational procedures and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy.
• 4. Managing a facility on occasion of being the highest-ranking custody staff on the premises or the Officer-in-Charge (OIC).
• 5. Ensuring that staff are fully trained and that proper conduct, actions, and procedures are being followed.
• 6. Maintaining facility security through regular inspections to ensure compliance with governing regulations and standards relating to facility maintenance, health, and safety of offenders.
• 7. Communicating effective instruction/direction during drills, searches, and in emergencies situations.
• 8. Responding to emergency situations such as, distress codes, escapes, and transportation of offenders.
• 9. Conducting and/or supervising searches of offenders, offender living areas and work areas for contraband.
• 10. Investigating and taking action when appropriate regarding security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints.
• 11. Preparing and reviewing reports and completing performance evaluations on subordinate staff.
• 12. Serving on a variety of institutional committees as needed.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the Minimum Education and Experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/Management Preferences are not required but applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

• Documented experience with report writing.
• Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques, and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.
• Documented knowledge of Prison Policies and Procedures and/or Facility Operations.

Salary Range : $39,244 - $68,679

This Is An Internal Posting Open Only For Current North Carolina Department Of Adult Corrections Employees, And Eligible State Government Reduction in Force (RIF) Candidates From North Carolina State Government, or Current Temporary Employees.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business needs.

About Anson Correctional Institution

Anson Correctional Institution houses female offenders in medium and close custody housing units. Anson CI offers a wide variety of educational, vocational, and training programs. Correction Enterprises operates the offender packaging operation at Anson, a partnership with Union Supply Direct through the Prison Industry Enhancement Program (PIE). Family and friends can order a package of goods from a pre-approved shopping list to send an offender. Orders are packaged by offenders and shipped quarterly.
