Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is seeking a Correctional Housing Unit Manager I to oversee the operations of an institutional housing unit within a close-custody facility. Reporting to the Unit Manager III, you will supervise custody staff and coordinate with program staff to support offender progress and safety.

This full‑time role requires supervisory experience, compliance with criminal justice standards, successful background checks, drug screening, and the ability to work

Qualifications

• Must meet Criminal Justice Standards (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
• Pass criminal background check
• Produce a negative drug screening
• Complete medical and psychological evaluations
• Possess a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

• Monitor unit case management system and provide individual counseling
• Coordinate with program staff and supervise custody staff
• Serve on Institution Classification Committees
• Assist supervisor with training and scheduling
• Review staff work through incident reports and classifications
• Assign work to subordinates per SOPs
• Review housing inspections and disciplinary investigations
• Counsel staff and issue warnings as needed
