Job summary

firsthand Health in Norfolk, Virginia is looking for a Peer Recovery Specialist, or 'firsthand Guide', to support individuals living with serious mental illness (SMI). This role focuses on outreach, care coordination, and building trusting relationships. Candidates should have lived experience with SMI and be willing to obtain a State Peer Recovery certification.

Qualifications

• Lived experience with SMI and/or SUD.
• Valid driver's license with good standing.
• Two years of recovery time from a mental health and/or substance abuse disorder.

Responsibilities

• Conduct community outreach in various locations.
• Support individuals by scheduling appointments and taking vitals.
• Build trust by addressing immediate needs and empowering personal goals.
• Serve as primary point-of-contact using engagement techniques.
• Facilitate access to resources and benefits.
• Assist with care coordination and documentation.
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
