Job summary

Middlesex College in Edison, NJ seeks a Testing Center Coordinator to assist in organizing the department, train staff, maintain computerized testing systems, and coordinate with IT and test providers. You will handle student records, answer inquiries, and proctor a range of tests.

The role requires interaction with students and faculty, with emphasis on accommodations for diverse learners. Schedule is Monday–Friday, with evenings as needed and travel among campuses.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree
  • Two (2) years of experience dealing with the general public
  • One (1) year of experience in administering, processing, and scoring standardized and other tests

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the organization/coordination of the department; including supervisory support for projects, reports, and routine operations.
  • Responsible for the training and development of the Testing Center staff.
  • Responsible for maintenance of computerized testing systems, such as ACCUPLACER, TEAS, CLEP, etc.
  • Provides technical support for testing processes and acts as the liaison for the Testing Department with the I.T. Department and the Test Provider (e.g., College Board, ATI, etc.).
  • Updates and maintains student records and departmental files via manual or computerized systems.
  • Assists students, faculty, and other staff by providing information concerning the interpretation of placement test results, remediation policies, adapted testing policies, credit by exam policies, and makes appropriate referrals.
  • Administers, processes, proctors, scores, and/or records standardized, course-related, and other tests.
  • Assists students with disabilities and specific testing accommodations (e.g., read orally, scribe, enlarging print, etc.), but also works with all other students, including new students and for whom English is a second language.
  • Maintains the security and inventory of all test materials.
  • Composes and prepares reports, correspondence, and emails as required.
  • Provides clerical support services to the department as required.
  • Operates all office equipment.
  • Answers telephone, schedules test dates, and assists visitors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that are appropriate to the position.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree
  • Two (2) years of experience dealing with the general public

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree
  • Familiarity with Colleague/ Datatel
  • Knowledge of a foreign language and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and,
  • Mathematics) subjects
  • Strong computer and analytical skills
  • Willingness and ability to communicate effectively with students for whom English is a second language, and with students with disabilities and specific accommodations
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, ability to deal with a variety of people in a positive manner, and to work independently
  • Good organizational skills and keyboard proficiency (scribing)
  • Willingness and ability to learn the operation of computer, office, and adaptive testing equipment
Supplemental Information

SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., 35 hours per week

Ability to work evenings on a weekly rotating schedule, as needed to proctor testing at our three locations in Edison, Perth Amboy and New Brunswick. The ability and willingness to travel to all three campuses is required.
