Job summary

Old Dominion University in Norfolk seeks an Esports Coordinator to lead the Esports program and manage day-to-day operations of varsity and junior varsity teams, including recruiting players and coaches, and supervising student staff for arena operations and live streaming.

This role advances programmatic strategies, builds external partnerships, and helps attract current and future students to the Esports program, with occasional telework during university closings as needed.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Develop long-range plans and programmatic strategies aligned with the department mission.
  • Create systems and guidelines governing daily esports program functions.

Job Summary: The Esports Coordinator’s chief objective is to lead the Esportsprogram and manage the day-to‑to‑day operational activities of thevarsity and junior varsity teams, including but not limited to;maintaining and managing individual teams, recruiting players andcoaches, managing student employees for esports arena operationsand live streaming broadcasts, building and maintaining connectionswith internal and external partners, creating relationships thatwill further the mission of department of Recreation &Wellness. This position is responsible for attracting current andfuture students to the Esports program and creating systems andguidelines to govern the daily functions of the program. Thisposition assists in long range planning and implementation ofprogrammatic strategies as it relates to the overall mission withinthe division.

Given the nature of the positions in Student & Campus Life tosupport student services and/or student-centered programs, theemployee occupying this position may be required to work during auniversity closing. There may be occasions where the employee willbe asked to work during university closings as directed by his orher supervisor. These instances may include working from a remotelocation (i.e. telework, etc.).

Salary range is $50,000-57,000.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, or an equivalent combinationof education, training, and relevant experience
  • Some financial management and retail experience; Excellentorganizational, management, leadership, communication andinterpersonal skills;
  • Proven commitment to student development and customerservice;
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, problem solve, and meetdeadlines;
  • Demonstrated skill using Microsoft Office and Adobe products in aWindows/network environment.
  • Demonstrable computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheetand/or graphic software programs;
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with otherindividuals and departments on campus and in the surroundingcommunity;
  • First Aid, CPR and AED certifications required. Possession of orability to acquire a valid Virginia State driver’s license.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience coaching, recruiting, and developingstudent Esports players in multiple games. Ability to assess skilllevel of players and coaches. Proficiency in technology,troubleshooting and hardware and software set-up and tear down forPC’s, consoles, and streaming equipment. Program creation orstart-up experience is strongly desired.
