Job Summary

The Student Accessibility Coordinator reports directly tothe Director of the Office of Educational Accessibility. TheStudent Accessibility Coordinator I works with students todetermine reasonable and appropriate accommodations and services towhich the students are entitled to under the ADA and Section 504 ofthe Rehabilitation Act. Applying independent judgment andexpertise, the Student Accessibility Coordinator I interacts withfaculty, parents, and students; serves on university committeesrepresenting disability/accessibility-related issues and concerns;and engages in activities that promote campus accessibility,awareness, and inclusive design.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Considerable knowledge of laws pertaining to students withdisabilities including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act andthe Americans with Disabilities Act in order to provide accurateinformation to students and to buffer and protect the Universityfrom liability.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the needs of students with a varietyof disabilities and the needs of students with disabilities at thesecondary level and above.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of reasonable accommodations andlearning strategies needed for students with disabilities.
  • Considerable knowledge of diagnostic testing procedures andstrong ability to analyze diagnostic testing/documentation in orderto determine disability and to develop reasonable and appropriateaccommodations.
  • Proficiency in case management or accommodation managementsystems.
  • Ability to assess the needs of students who are not yetdiagnosed and make referrals to appropriate professionals.
  • Considerable knowledge of assistive technology that can be usedto support students with disabilities.
  • Capability to effectively and competently assist students withacquisition of learning strategies, memory techniques, and timemanagement systems that are specific to their individual needs
  • Effective teaching skills.
  • Specific knowledge of issues regarding transition into thepost-secondary setting.
  • General knowledge of university structure, policies andprocedures
  • Excellent discernment/listening/counseling skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Significant experience working with students with disabilities inan educational setting, experience working in a higher educationsetting is preferred, and experience planning and implementingeducational programming for students with disabilities.
