Job summary

Ohio Department of Youth Services is seeking a Cook to lead and train youth workers in food preparation, sanitation and storage at the Indian River Juvenile Correctional Facility. The role involves rotating through cooking, dishwashing and serving duties, with supervision over youth workers and adherence to safety protocols.

The position requires knowledge of HAACP forms, proper handling of dietary requirements, and operating kitchen equipment.

Qualifications

• Formal education in arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
• 6 months of training or 6 months of experience in food preparation, sanitation and storage and use of food service equipment in institutional, school or restaurant settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide work direction and training to youth workers and youth apprentice in food preparation, sanitation and storage of food.
• Monitor service lines, loading of carts, storage of foods and general cleaning.
• Work all stations on a rotating basis including cooking, dish washing, serving line, and cleaning.
• Operate commercial kitchen equipment to cook food.
• Prepare salads, desserts, breads, beverages, sandwiches and cut vegetables and meats.
• Ensure safety and sanitation of the assigned area.
• Operate cash register; prepare daily paperwork including HAACP forms.
• Supervise youth workers and follow safety procedures.
• Set up food-lines and portions in line with dietary requirements.
• Set up food carts according to daily recipes.
