Job description

Who we are:

With nearly 65 years of service, DDI provides a full continuum of care — from early intervention to residential, day habilitation, and vocational programs — for over 1,600 children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities. DDI is driven by a dedicated staff and a belief in every individual's potential.

Role Overview: Cooks are responsible for meal preparation, cooking, shopping, and meal planning, in coordination with menus prepared by the Nutritionist. They must follow all menus and fill in substitutions according to the exchange list, and be familiar with and adhere to OPWDD regulations regarding food, kitchen area, and cleanliness of the house. Additionally, they help schedule and plan parties for special occasions and report any maintenance needs or hazardous conditions to the Manager or Maintenance Person.

Salary Range: $18.50/hour - $20.35/hour

Schedule: Full-time & Part-time

What you'll do at DDI:
  • Prepare meals in coordination with Nutritionist's menus, including shopping and meal planning.
  • Follow all menus and fill in substitutions according to the exchange list; accommodate special diets such as gluten-free, halal, kosher, and individual meal needs.
  • Prepare ingredients and cook using various methods and utensils.
  • Measure ingredients accurately and maintain food inventories.
  • Ensure proper storage of unused food and report any maintenance or hazardous conditions.
  • Meet with the nutritionist to set up appropriate dietary menus.
  • Help schedule and plan parties for special occasions.
  • Answer phones courteously and take messages.
  • Follow OPWDD regulations regarding food and kitchen safety.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
What you bring to DDI:
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • At least one year of proven experience as a cook.
  • Ability to work well with staff and individuals supported.
  • Ability to cook following provided menus and guidelines.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry at least 25 lbs and perform bending, twisting, and reaching tasks.
