Job summary

IHG Hotels & Resorts in Guam offers a three-year apprenticeship in hotel kitchen operations through the Guam Registered Apprentice Program (GRAP). The program includes classroom lectures at Guam Community College and hands-on training across core kitchen areas.

Apprentices work about 34 hours per week at the hotel, must be 18+, and hold a high school diploma or equivalent. GCC culinary students are welcome to apply as part of this immersive program.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of a three-year apprenticeship.
• Attend classroom lectures at GCC or equivalent credit hours (minimum 480 hours).
• Must be 18 years or older with a High School Diploma.
• Residents of Guam for at least three years; U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
• GCC Culinary Students welcome for program eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Prepare meals following standard recipes and portion controls to minimize waste.
• Promote teamwork and coordinate with managers and departments to ensure service quality.
• Follow safety procedures, report hazards, and maintain cleanliness and secure storage of materials.
• Maintain professional appearance and protect company assets.
• Develop positive working relationships and communicate clearly with colleagues.
• Assist in moving and handling objects up to 50 pounds and navigate stairs and ramps.

Job Requirements

• This is a three-year apprenticeship


• Attend classroom lecture at Guam Community College (GCC) or obtain equivalent class credit as per program requirement (minimum 480 credit hours of classroom lecture)


• Work approximately 34 hours per week at hotel (Total OJT Hours: 6,000)


• Must be 18‑year‑old and has High School Diploma


• Bona fide resident of Guam not less than three years


• U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident Alien


• Agree to terms and conditions of the Program


• GCC Culinary Students are welcome


• To be rotated through all core aspects of hotel kitchen operations in accordance with the Guam Registered Apprentice Program (GRAP)

Responsibilities

Prepare meals in accordance with portion and quality standards specified in standard recipes. Be mindful during preparation and operation, when working with food and materials, to minimize waste at full-service hotel.

Promote teamwork and quality service through regular communication and coordination with managers, team members, and other departments.

Follows safety and security procedures and policies; reports maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents or injuries; completes safety training and certifications; and properly stores flammable materials.

Ensures that uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional.

Maintains confidentiality and protects company assets.

Develops and maintains positive working relationships with others, supports team to reach common goals, and listens and responds appropriately to the concerns of other employees.

Speaks to others using clear and professional language.

Moves, lifts, carries, push/pulls objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance. Moves up/down stairs, ladders, service ramps. Able to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling and stooping.
