Job summary

DaySpring of Wallace is seeking an experienced Cook to join our culinary team and provide nutritious, high-quality meals to residents. You will prepare meals according to menus and dietary requirements, and maintain a clean, sanitary kitchen.

You will work with the Dietary Manager to ensure resident satisfaction, manage inventory, and support a positive dining experience for seniors.

Qualifications

• Must have food preparation and safety knowledge.
• Experience serving meals in senior living, healthcare, or restaurant settings preferred.
• Ability to follow recipes, menus, and dietary plans.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals according to menus and dietary requirements.
• Serve meals timely while maintaining quality, portion control, and presentation.
• Keep kitchen clean, organized, and sanitary following safety procedures.
• Collaborate with Dietary Manager and staff; train new kitchen staff as needed.
• Assist with inventory management and report shortages or orders.
• Respond to special dietary requests and resident preferences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Food Preparation: Prepare and cook meals according to menu plans, ensuring food is nutritious, appetizing, and prepared according to dietary requirements and resident preferences.
• Meal Service: Ensure meals are served in a timely manner, maintaining high standards of quality, portion control, and presentation.
• Kitchen Maintenance: Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment by following food safety and sanitation procedures. Ensure proper storage and handling of food supplies.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Dietary Manager and kitchen staff to ensure smooth kitchen operations and quality service. Assist in training new kitchen staff as needed.
• Inventory Control: Assist with inventory management and help track food supplies. Report shortages or order needs to the Dietary Manager.
• Resident Engagement: Respond to special dietary requests and accommodate residents’ food preferences, ensuring satisfaction with meals served.
• Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to health and safety regulations, including safe food handling and proper sanitation practices.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
• Previous cooking experience in a senior living, healthcare, or restaurant setting (preferred)
• Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations
• Ability to follow recipes and meal plans
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Compassion for and a desire to work with the elderly
