Meriwether Godsey is hiring a full-time Cook for a private college preparatory boarding and day school in Gill, MA. The role involves daily meal preparation, cooking, and presenting food for daily meals and special events.

The position requires high school diploma or equivalent, and experience in high-volume kitchen settings; ServSafe certification or ability to obtain within 6 months is preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Participate in the preparation, cooking, and portioning of meat, fish, fowl, vegetables, cereals, soups, sauces, fruits, bread, desserts, and other items.
• Prepare items in batches close to serving time to maintain quality and avoid over-production.
• Follow recipes and suggest changes to improve products and presentation.
• Cook, maintain, and store foods at required temperatures.
• Record temperatures and follow sanitation standards to ensure safety.
• Maintain production records on amounts, attendance, and leftovers for forecasting.
• Organize and sanitize coolers, freezers, and storerooms; label and date items.
• Attend daily production meetings and discuss leftovers utilization and efficiency.
• Perform duties in line with food safety and sanitation best practices.
• Other duties as assigned.

Cook

Full-Time, 9 Month hourly - 19 Pay. Location: Gill, MA, US

Salary Range: $20.00 To $21.00 Hourly

Meriwether Godsey is looking for a full-time Cook responsible for the preparation, cooking, and presentation of daily meals and special events at a private co-educational college preparatory boarding and day school located in Gill, MA.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the preparation, cooking, and portioning of large quantities of meat, fish, fowl, vegetables, cereals, soups, sauces, fruits, bread, desserts, and other food items
• Prepare items in batches as close to serving time as possible to ensure quality and limit over-production
• Follow recipes and recommend changes in recipes and cooking methods to improve products and ensure high-quality food preparation and presentation
• Cook, maintain, and store all foods at required temperatures
• Take and record temperatures, following all required food handling and sanitation standards to ensure food safety
• Maintain accurate records of production amounts, attendance, and leftovers to assist in forecasting
• Assist with organization and sanitation of coolers, freezers, and storerooms; items should be covered, labeled, and dated
• Attend production meetings daily, offering input concerning leftover utilization, efficiency, and product quality
• Perform all duties in accordance with food safety and sanitation best practices
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Prior experience as a cook is desirable; production kitchen or contract dining experience (2–4 years preferred)
• ServSafe Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment; allergen training
• Experience with high-volume, fast-paced food service operations; preferably in school environments
• Ability to measure products and convert units of measure
• Strong knife skills
• Professionalism, with strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Flexibility to switch between locations and duties
• Growing knowledge of sustainable practices
