Job summary

Meriwether Godsey is hiring a Full Time Cook for a private college-preparatory school in McLean, VA. The cook will prepare, cook, and present meals and support daily events.

Shift availability includes weekdays and weekends from 10am to 7pm, with benefits including free meals and uniforms. Requirements include a High School diploma or equivalent, 5 years of kitchen experience, ServSafe and Allertrain (or ability to obtain within 6 months), and the ability to work in high-volume school settings.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and portion large quantities of varied foods.
  • Time meals to serve without interruption.
  • Follow recipes and optimize quality and presentation.
  • Maintain proper food temperatures and safety standards.
  • Record production and leftovers for forecasting.
  • Assist with organization of storage areas and sanitation.
  • Attend daily production meetings and contribute ideas.
  • Perform duties in line with food safety guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Meriwether Godsey is seeking a Full Time Cook responsible for preparing, cooking, and presenting daily meals and special events at a private college-preparatory school located in McLean, VA.

  • $21 an hour
  • Availability during the weekdays and weekends from 10am-7 pm

What The Cook Will Do
  • Participate in the preparation, cooking, and portioning of large quantities of meat, fish, fowl, vegetables, cereals, soups, sauces, fruits, breads, desserts, and other food items
  • Prepare items in batches as close to serving time as possible to ensure quality and limit over-production using good judgment in timing to ensure service without interruption
  • Follow recipes and recommend changes in recipes and cooking methods to improve products and ensure the highest quality food preparation and presentation
  • Cook, maintain, and store all foods at/to the required temperatures
  • Take and record temperatures, following all required food handling and sanitation standards to ensure food safety
  • Maintain accurate records of production amounts, attendance & left-over amounts to assist in efficient forecasting informationAssist with the organization and sanitation of coolers, freezers, and storerooms: all items covered, labeled, and dated
  • Attend production meetings daily, offering input concerning leftover utilization, efficiency, product quality, etc.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with food safety and sanitation best practices
  • Other duties, as assigned
What The Cook Will Need
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years of proven experience as a restaurant line and/or contract dining cook
  • ServSafe® Certification and Allertrain or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
  • Experience with high-volume food service operations, preferably in school environments
  • Ability to measure products and convert units of measure
  • Knife handling knowledge and experience with braising, steaming, and roasting
  • High levels of professionalism, strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Flexibility; ability to switch between locations and job duties
  • Ability to work independently
  • Growing knowledge of sustainable practices
  • Reliable transportation, as this account is not serviced by public transportation routes
