Job Summary:
The Community Cook reports to the Food & Beverage Director and assists in preparing meals safely and attractively, in compliance with dietary standards and community policies and procedures.
Essential Functions:
- Prepares food items according to the Food & Beverage Director's daily menu for residents within scheduled time frames.
- Keeps food service areas clean and organized.
- Supervises servers in the absence of the Food & Beverage Director.
- Maintains a clean, neat, and safe work environment.
- Demonstrates knowledge of kitchen equipment including ovens, slicers, mixers, steam tables, steamers, toasters, coffee pots, refrigerators, and freezers.
- Ensures resident diets are followed accurately.
- Tracks and accounts for employee and resident guest meals daily.
- Reports any loss, breakage, or waste of supplies and equipment to the Food & Beverage Director.
- Observes and communicates any dietary department issues or potential problems.
- Works independently with minimal supervision.
- Can cook large quantities of food while maintaining quality.
- Guides and instructs others in food preparation and serving.
- Maintains professionalism under stress.
- Recognizes needs and assists others proactively.
- Builds positive relationships with staff and residents.
- Ensures cleanliness and safety in the kitchen, adhering to high standards.
- Respects resident rights and adheres to community policies on resident care.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Food & Beverage Director.
Compliance and Safety:
- Follows all emergency procedures.
- Understands and adheres to all safety policies.
- Reports on-the-job injuries promptly to the Food & Beverage Director.
Communication:
- Communicates effectively with the Food & Beverage Director and staff.
- Immediately reports any changes in residents' health to the Food & Beverage Director.
- Maintains acceptable attendance and punctuality, notifying of any delays or absences per HR policies.
Education/Experience/Licensure/Certification:
- ServSafe Certification required.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to food preparation.
- Understanding of cooking times and temperatures per state guidelines.
- Familiarity with various cuts of meat and seasonings.
- Experience in diverse food preparation techniques.
- Experience working with seniors and understanding their dietary needs.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to bend, reach, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Capable of standing for extended periods.
- Able to work in hot/humid environments.
- Potential for burns, cuts, and slips; caution required.
- Can assess food quality through taste and smell.
