Job summary

Village on the Park Onion Creek in Austin, TX is seeking compassionate cooks to enrich residents' meals and daily living. This part-time role covers weekend shifts 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with duties ranging from meal prep to plating and sanitation.

You will follow dietary guidelines, maintain safe food temperatures, and help train new kitchen staff while upholding a neat, professional appearance.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (culinary school training is a plus).
  • Accredited food handler certification within 60 days, as per State guidelines.
  • 6 months to 1 year of proven experience as a cook.
  • Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling, etc.).
  • Ability to follow all sanitation procedures.
  • Team player with effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent physical condition and stamina.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare a variety of meals according to recipes.
  • Adhere to residents' dietary needs and restrictions.
  • Monitor temperature, taste, and quality; ensure top-notch quality.
  • Use utensils and grillers to cook food; stir or turn as needed.
  • Dress dishes for presentation before serving.
  • Keep kitchen sanitized and orderly; ensure equipment is clean.
  • Store food properly to maintain freshness and safety.
  • Monitor stock levels and place orders for shortages with supervisor approval.
  • Follow nutrition and sanitation guidelines and document accordingly.
  • Assist in training and orienting new kitchen staff.
  • Maintain professional appearance and personal hygiene.
  • Attend in-service training sessions.

Location: Village on the Park Onion Creek, an Independent Living and Assisted Living senior community

Pay Rate: $20.00/hr.

Part-Time Shifts:

5:00a.m. - 1:00p.m. | Friday, - Sunday

Availability: Must be available weekends and holidays

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare and cook a variety of meals, including soups, meats, gravies, vegetables, desserts, salads, and baked goods, from fresh, canned, dry, or frozen states according to recipes.
  • Adhere to residents' special dietary needs and restrictions.
  • Monitor all food items for temperature, taste, and quality; taste food to ensure top-notch quality.
  • Use various utensils and grillers to cook food, stirring or turning as needed.
  • Dress dishes for a great presentation before serving.
  • Keep the kitchen sanitized and orderly, ensuring all equipment is cleaned, working properly, and turned off before closing.
  • Store all food and items properly to maintain freshness and safety.
  • Check and ensure the quality of ingredients.
  • Monitor stock levels and place orders for shortages with supervisor's approval.
  • Follow nutrition and sanitation guidelines, including governmental and company policies, and ensure proper documentation.
  • Assist in training and orienting new kitchen staff.
  • Maintain high standards of appearance, cleanliness, and personal hygiene.
  • Attend all required in-service training sessions.
  • Be an active member of the community’s emergency response team.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and good personal hygiene as per company policies.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or GED (culinary school training is a plus).
