Job summary

The Aspenwood Company - The Doliver of Tanglewood is seeking cooks who are enthusiastic about preparing delicious meals for seniors in an Independent Living and Assisted Living community. The role supports residents with memories care and requires weekend/holiday availability.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; culinary school training is a plus.
• Accredited food handler certification within 60 days.
• 6 months to 1 year of proven cook experience.
• Experience with cutting tools, cookware, and bakeware.
• Knowledge of cooking procedures (grilling, baking, boiling).
• Ability to follow sanitation procedures.
• Team player with good communication.
• Excellent physical condition and stamina.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook a variety of meals from recipes.
• Adhere to residents' dietary needs and restrictions.
• Monitor temperature, taste, and quality of food.
• Use utensils and grillers to cook and stir as needed.
• Dress dishes for presentation before serving.
• Keep the kitchen sanitized and orderly; equipment cleaned and off at close.
• Store all food and items properly to maintain freshness.
• Check ingredient quality and monitor stock levels.
• Follow nutrition and sanitation guidelines and document accordingly.
• Assist in training new kitchen staff.
• Maintain appearance and personal hygiene according to policy.
• Attend required in-service trainings and participate in emergency response.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare and cook a variety of meals, including soups, meats, gravies, vegetables, desserts, salads, and baked goods, from fresh, canned, dry, or frozen states according to recipes.
• Adhere to residents' special dietary needs and restrictions.
• Monitor all food items for temperature, taste, and quality; taste food to ensure top-notch quality.
• Use various utensils and grillers to cook food, stirring or turning as needed.
• Dress dishes for a great presentation before serving.
• Keep the kitchen sanitized and orderly, ensuring all equipment is cleaned, working properly, and turned off before closing.
• Store all food and items properly to maintain freshness and safety.
• Check and ensure the quality of ingredients.
• Monitor stock levels and place orders for shortages with supervisor’s approval.
• Follow nutrition and sanitation guidelines, including governmental and company policies, and ensure proper documentation.
• Assist in training and orienting new kitchen staff.
• Maintain high standards of appearance, cleanliness, and personal hygiene.
• Attend all required in-service training sessions.
• Be an active member of the community’s emergency response team.
• Maintain a professional appearance and good personal hygiene as per company policies.
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or GED (culinary school training is a plus).

• 6 months to 1 year of proven experience as a cook.
• Experience with cutting tools, cookware, and bakeware.
• Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling, etc.).

• Excellent physical condition and stamina.
