Job summary

The Aspenwood Company in Plano, TX is seeking Cooks to prepare and serve meals for seniors in an assisted living community. You will adhere to dietary needs and maintain high food quality in a busy kitchen.

This full-time role requires weekend availability and holiday shifts, with hourly pay between $18 and $19. Training and benefits are provided as part of a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; culinary training is a plus.
• Food handler certification within 60 days, per state guidelines.
• 6 months to 1 year of proven cook experience.
• Experience with cutting tools, cookware and bakeware.
• Knowledge of grilling, baking, boiling, and related methods.
• Ability to follow sanitation procedures.
• Team player with strong communication skills.
• Excellent physical condition and stamina.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook a variety of meals from fresh, canned, dry, or frozen ingredients.
• Adhere to residents' dietary needs and restrictions.
• Monitor temperature, taste, and quality; ensure top-notch food.
• Use utensils and grillers; stir or turn as needed.
• Dress dishes for presentation before serving.
• Keep kitchen sanitized and equipment functioning and off after closing.
• Store food properly to maintain freshness and safety.
• Check ingredient quality and stock levels; place orders as needed.

Location:Village on the Park Plano, an Assisted Living with Memory Care senior community

Pay Rate: $18/hr. - $19/hr.

Full-Time Shifts:

Thursday - Monday

Availability: Must be available weekends and holidays

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare and cook a variety of meals, including soups, meats, gravies, vegetables, desserts, salads, and baked goods, from fresh, canned, dry, or frozen states according to recipes.
• Adhere to residents' special dietary needs and restrictions.
• Monitor all food items for temperature, taste, and quality; taste food to ensure top-notch quality.
• Use various utensils and grillers to cook food, stirring or turning as needed.
• Dress dishes for a great presentation before serving.
• Keep the kitchen sanitized and orderly, ensuring all equipment is cleaned, working properly, and turned off before closing.
• Store all food and items properly to maintain freshness and safety.
• Check and ensure the quality of ingredients.
• Monitor stock levels and place orders for shortages with supervisor's approval.
• Follow nutrition and sanitation guidelines, including governmental and company policies, and ensure proper documentation.
• Assist in training and orienting new kitchen staff.
• Maintain high standards of appearance, cleanliness, and personal hygiene.
• Attend all required in-service training sessions.
• Be an active member of the community's emergency response team.
• Maintain a professional appearance and good personal hygiene as per company policies.
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or GED (culinary school training is a plus).
• Accredited food handler certification within 60 days, as per State guidelines.
• 6 months to 1 year of proven experience as a cook.
• Experience with cutting tools, cookware, and bakeware.
• Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling, etc.).
• Ability to follow all sanitation procedures.
• Team player with effective oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent physical condition and stamina.
