Job summary

X4 Engineering is building next‑generation AI data center infrastructure. We are seeking a BMS Controls Lead to own the building controls layer of our global reference design and set the standard for how controls are built, deployed, and scaled across our fleet.

This role leads BMS engineering, defines sequences, governs networks, and drives scalable, data‑first plant optimization across our fleet, while guiding vendors and integrators to strict specifications.

Qualifications

• Proven track record leading BMS or controls for hyperscale data centers or large industrial plants.
• Ability to write sequences of operation trusted by operations teams.
• Experience managing third-party integrators to strict specs and test protocols.
• Focus on telemetry and analytics as core outputs of design.

Responsibilities

• Lead BMS Controls Engineering: own the building controls architecture for the reference design.
• Own the Standards: define sequences of operation, IO points, and network architectures.
• Drive Vendor & Integrator Strategy: hold integrators and platforms to spec.
• Carry the Complex Logic: architect plant optimization and failover/demand response features.
• Grow & Scale the Team: develop standards and mentor growing staff.

Pay range: $170,000 to $240,000 base

Location: Fully Remote (or Austin, TX)

About the Role

We are building next-generation, high-density AI data center infrastructure at scale. We are seeking a BMS Controls Lead to own the building controls layer of our global reference design and set the standard for how controls are built, deployed, and scaled across our fleet.

What You’ll Do (Role Scope)

• Lead BMS Controls Engineering: Own the building controls architecture for our reference design across the entire portfolio.
• Own the Standards: Define sequences of operation, I/O points lists, and network architectures, written once, deployed everywhere.
• Drive Vendor & Integrator Strategy: Hold integrators, software platforms, and programming standards strictly to spec.
• Carry the Complex Logic: Architect plant optimization, failover logic, and demand response features.
• Grow & Scale the Team: Build engineering standards and mentor the team as our infrastructure expands.

What We’re Looking For

• Proven Track Record: Experience leading BMS or controls engineering for hyperscale data centers or large-scale industrial plants.
• Rock-Solid Logic: You write sequences of operations that operations teams trust at 3:00 AM.
• Integrator Discipline: Experience holding third-party integrators strictly to points lists, network specs, and functional testing protocol.
• Data-First Engineering: You design for telemetry and operational analytics as first-class outputs.

Nice-to-Haves / Bonus

• Deep platform expertise in Tridium (Niagara), ALC, or Siemens.
• Extensive experience with BACnet at scale, EPMS integration, and chilled water / liquid cooling plant optimization.
• Strong background interfacing directly with commissioning teams (L1–L5).
