Job summary

Basepoint Building Automations seeks a Director of Field Operations, Des Moines, IA, to lead controls field operations across Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, and Kansas City. You will build and coach managers, ensure safety, and drive consistent field execution on installation, commissioning, and service projects.

You will partner with Sales, Engineering, and Service to optimize staffing, budgets, and schedules while elevating regional performance and customer outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, business, or related field or equivalent relevant experience.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in controls, building automation, field operations, or related technical field.
• 5+ years of leadership experience managing field operations teams, technicians, or supervisors.
• Strong understanding of controls installation, commissioning, service coordination, integrated controls, and security solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a safety-first field culture and ensure compliance with safety expectations and regulations.
• Experience with labor planning, workload management, resource forecasting, and field performance metrics.
• Ability to establish and improve operational standards, processes, training programs, and technician development pathways.
• Proven ability to collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Project Management, Service, and other partners.

Responsibilities

• Lead Controls field operations and ensure teams are prepared, trained, and supported to safely execute projects and service work.
• Refine regional field operations structure across Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, and Kansas City with clear leadership routines.
• Coach Regional Field Operations Managers and Commissioning Managers on accountability and performance.
• Promote safety-first culture where technician safety takes priority over schedules or margins.
• Oversee field execution quality for installation, commissioning, and security solutions.
• Manage workforce capacity, workload, forecasting, and resource planning across regions.
• Serve as primary contact with union leadership on workforce matters and apprenticeship pipelines.
• Monitor field performance, identify root causes, and drive continuous improvement.
• Develop training programs and career paths to grow technician capabilities.
• Align Field Operations goals, budgets, and plans with overall business objectives.
