Job summary

Webasto Americas in Auburn Hills, MI is seeking a regional Controls and Automation expert to lead engineering initiatives across multiple plants. You will program, troubleshoot, and integrate Siemens and Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs, while aligning with global standards.

You will mentor teams, support equipment suppliers, and travel domestically and internationally as needed to drive commissioning, startups, and continuous improvement in automated manufacturing environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field with 5+ years in controls, automation, or manufacturing engineering.
• Strong hands-on experience programming, configuring, and troubleshooting Siemens and Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs.

Responsibilities

• Serve as regional controls and automation SME supporting equipment development, commissioning, startups, handover, and escalations across multiple sites.
• Develop and maintain regional controls standards aligned with global PLC/HMI, MES, safety, networking, and cybersecurity.
• Program, configure, troubleshoot Siemens and Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs with TIA Portal/WinCC, Studio 5000/RSLogix, and FactoryTalk.
• Integrate PLCs with robots, vision systems, servo/motion, scanners, safety devices, and FANUC/ABB robotics and Cognex/Keyence vision systems.
• Design and troubleshoot industrial networks and interfaces including EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, switches, remote I/O, MES, traceability, and Line Control Systems; SQL-based apps.
• Provide technical guidance to equipment suppliers through design, build, testing, installation, and launch; liaise across EPCs, Manufacturing Eng, IT, Maintenance.
• Maintain controls documentation, drawings, network layouts, backups, and revision histories; build plant capabilities via training; travel domestically and internationally as needed.
