Job summary

Inalfa Roof Systems seeks a control engineer to advance electrical and automation for our USA manufacturing lines at the Cherokee Assembly location. You will design and implement electrical and control systems for automated equipment, support HMI features, and ensure reliable operation of car roof production processes.

The ideal candidate holds a BS in Electrical/Automation Engineering with 5–10 years of hands-on automation experience, and expert knowledge of RSLogix 5000, LabVIEW, and AutoCAD.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Automation Engineering or related field.
• 5–10 years hands-on automation experience in manufacturing or automotive.
• Strong PLC programming, electrical schematics, and system integration skills.
• Familiarity with RSLogix 5000, LabVIEW and AutoCAD preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support specifying HMI/software features and manufacturing equipment.
• Design electrical/control-wiring schematics on CAD systems.
• Design ladder logic and relay logic PLC programming (RSLogix5000).
• Develop BOM and component selection for automation projects.
• Test, start-up, debugging and trouble shooting of systems.
• Kaizen-driven improvements to reduce waste and improve OEE.
• Coordinate with maintenance and MIS for hardware and software support.

SUMMARY

Support specifying, design and electrical engineering of manufacturing equipment and supporting databases for IRS/USA.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties may be assigned.

• Support specifying HMI/software features and manufacturing equipment
• Design electrical/control-wiring schematics on CAD system
• Design of control logic and control schematics
• Design ladder logic and relay logic PLC programming RSlogix5000, Factory Talk View Layout detailing and subassembly op panels
• Bill of material and selection of component
• System interfacing, power calculation, sizing of cable wires
• Testing, start-up, debugging, and trouble shooting
• *Support upgrading current assembly lines, machinery, jigs, fixtures to improve Process control (error proofing) User-friendliness on Human Machine Interface and self diagnostics Data-collection Start-up/setting instructions Database Development Support engineering department in development of control units for our sunroofs and the interfacing to the car
• Support engineering department with programming of IRS testing equipment
• Enhance knowledge of electronics/control systems etc within IRS/USA
• Support MIS department on industrial computers and associated hardware
• The control engineer will be the specialist for electronics/PLC and robot software for IRS/USA
• Quality lead-time and cost control for each task assigned
• Programming, debugging and start up of new automated assembly machinery, robots and Human-Machine-Interfaces
• Write/change documentation for start-up/setting calibration of machinery
• Continuous improvement actions (Kaizen) to optimize processes of the current machinery park by improving Human-Machine-Interface, adding error proofing, vision, and debugging.
• This is needed reduce WIP, down time, wasteful scrap and rework.
• Support maintenance department in troubleshooting, solving machine breakdowns etc. if needed outside of the normal working hours.
• Will provide training as needed to Maintenance Automation Technicians in troubleshooting, PLC, Robotics and control systems.
• Communication with internal functions, suppliers, and the customer

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have worked successfully in several automation projects for the manufacturing industry (automotive and robot projects preferred).
• Good analyzing skills for trouble shooting and for solving technical problems.
• Must have sound knowledge of automation techniques, machine control systems, programmable logic controllers, pneumatics and computer programming.
• Preferred knowledge about OSHA electrical/electronic requirements and automotive EMC requirements.
• Good communication skills, both written and oral.
• Good PLC programming skills, especially Allen Bradley RSlogix 5000, knowledge about Visual Basic, and AutoCAD preferred.
• Able to work on several issues simultaneous; able to set-up a good planning for projects/running operations; can work under pressure.
• Proficient in LabVIEW programming; familiar with project-oriented layered architecture, Queued State Machine, Producer-Consumer multi-thread framework in LabVIEW.
• Experienced in the development of automated equipment, precision instruments, data acquisition cards, motion control and sensor data acquisition.
• Prior experience in test equipment development based on NI hardware is preferred.
• Skilled in common communication protocols and peripheral integration, including TCP/IP, serial port, Modbus, etc.
• Capable of independently completing equipment protocol parsing, command debugging and data analysis.
• Familiarity with vehicle communication is preferred.
• Competent in data processing, signal filtering, anomaly judgment, timing logic and multi-device collaborative scheduling development, with understanding of closed-loop control for automated workflows.
• Has independently developed End of Line (EOL) test equipment

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor of Science in an Electrical/Automated Manufacturing Engineers discipline or related engineering degree and 5 to 10 years of hands on experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, machine control languages, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
