Location: Remote – Puerto Rico Job Type: Full-Time, Exempt | Monday–Friday | Day Shift
About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Controller to lead accounting operations and help strengthen the financial foundation of a growing healthcare organization.

The Controller will serve as a key financial leader, overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, compliance, cash flow management, budgeting support, audits, and financial systems. Working closely with the Chief Financial Officer and cross‑functional leadership, this role will ensure financial accuracy, operational excellence, and informed decision‑making across the organization.

The ideal candidate is a hands‑on accounting professional with strong technical expertise, proven leadership experience, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced and evolving healthcare environment.

What You'll Do
Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations
  • Lead all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll reconciliation, fixed assets, and month‑end close.

  • Prepare and review accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.

  • Ensure the integrity and consistency of financial reporting across entities and business units.

  • Maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, and documentation.

Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Partner with the CFO on annual budgeting, forecasting, and long‑range financial planning.

  • Analyze financial results, KPIs, trends, risks, and opportunities.

  • Develop financial analyses and management reports to support strategic decisions.

  • Partner with operational leaders to understand financial performance and budget variances.

Internal Controls & Compliance
  • Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal controls.

  • Monitor compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.

  • Identify financial risks and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.

  • Support compliance initiatives related to healthcare regulations and financial reporting.

Cash Flow & Treasury Management
  • Monitor cash flow and working capital requirements.

  • Oversee receivables, payables, and cash management activities.

  • Partner with leadership to optimize cash management and financial performance.

  • Assist with banking relationships and treasury initiatives.

Audit & Tax
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial consultants.

  • Coordinate annual audits and manage audit requests.

  • Support federal, state, and local tax filings through external partners.

  • Ensure timely compliance with financial reporting, tax, and regulatory requirements.

Process Improvement & Financial Systems
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.

  • Lead or support ERP, accounting, and financial reporting system implementations and enhancements.

  • Drive automation and technology initiatives that improve reporting and financial processes.

  • Develop financial dashboards and performance reporting tools as needed.

Leadership & Strategic Partnership
  • Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team.

  • Establish clear performance expectations and promote accountability.

  • Partner with executive leadership on growth initiatives, acquisitions, and operational improvements.

  • Translate complex financial information into actionable recommendations.

  • Promote a culture of collaboration, transparency, innovation, and financial stewardship.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • 3+ years of leadership or management experience overseeing accounting functions and teams.
  • Strong experience with month‑end close, financial reporting, and internal controls.

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting best practices.

  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis.

  • Understanding of regulatory compliance and audit processes.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, complex formulas, and financial modeling.

  • Experience with ERP/accounting platforms such as NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Enterprise, or similar systems.

  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop accounting professionals.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.

  • High level of integrity, professionalism, confidentiality, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.

  • Ability to communicate financial information effectively to both financial and non‑financial stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Experience in healthcare, healthcare technology, telehealth, physician practice management, or multi‑entity organizations.

  • Public accounting experience.

  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or other business intelligence and data visualization platforms.

  • Experience supporting organizational growth, process transformation, or system implementations.

Pay Details: $33.65 to $45.67 per hour
