ProPivotal seeks a Controller to lead the accounting function for a fast-growing real estate company, partnering with the CFO on transaction analysis and key financial decisions.

You will oversee a small finance team, own the monthly close, and develop policies as the portfolio expands across residential, commercial, and development projects.

This leadership role requires 10+ years of real estate accounting experience; CPA is preferred, with on-site Boston base and a hybrid work pattern.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Real estate / property accounting experience preferred.
  • Leadership experience at Controller or Assistant Controller level.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the monthly close and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting.
  • Manage and develop the accounting team, including reviewing work and improving workflows.
  • Build and refine accounting policies and procedures (including CapEx capitalization guidelines).
  • Support transaction and investment analysis including JV assets, distributions, and IRR style return analysis.
  • Provide financial insights across a diverse portfolio (residential, commercial, retail, hospitality, development).
  • Strengthen controls, documentation, and reporting cadence as the company scales.

Job description

This newly created Controller role is a high impact opportunity to lead the accounting function for a fast growing yes well-established real estate company while also partnering closely with the CFO on transaction analysis and key financial decisions.

You will join a small (roughly 20 employees) andcapable finance team and step into a true leadership seat with direct reports, ownership of the close, and the chance to build and strengthen policies and procedures as the organization continues to acquire and expand. This is a great opportunity for someone that is a Controller or potentially Assistant Controller within a real estate firm whose mission has lead to success for over 40 years.

Key Details
  • Location: Boston, MA 02135 (Allston) with free parking
  • Work Arrangement: onsite initially for onboarding, then typically 3 days in office and 2 days remote
  • Employment type: direct hire
  • Compensation: $150,000 to $175,000 base (some flexibility)
  • Bonus: 10% to 20% target
  • Benefits: healthcare, dental, vision, 401k
  • Industry: real estate and property management (roughly 100 properties, about $1B AUM)

Credentials
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • CPA strongly preferred
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Prior leadership experience (Controller or Assistant Controller level)
  • Real estate / property accounting experience strongly preferred
  • Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and a \"think outside the box\" approach
  • Personable leader who can coach a small team and partner with senior stakeholders
