Company and Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Controller / Accounting Manager to oversee all accounting and financial reporting functions for a local growing property management company and affiliated family office. This role will be responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting across multiple entities, and supporting real estate and tax-related activities. The ideal candidate has a strong background in real estate accounting, multi-entity structures, and tax coordination, and thrives in a hands-on, detail-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the general ledger for multiple entities, including property entities, and family office accounts
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with commercially accepted accounting principles
- Ensure accurate recording of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, refinancing, and capital improvements
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis
- Coordinate and collaborate with family office leadership
- Supervise property-level accounting, including rent rolls, CAM reconciliations, and tenant billings
- Review and manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management across multiple entities and properties
- Monitor property budgets, operating statements, and cash flow projections
- Ensure proper accounting for depreciation, amortization, and fixed assets
Tax & Compliance – in conjunction with family office leadership:
- Coordinate with external CPAs and tax advisors for federal, state, and local tax filings
- Support preparation of entity-level, partnership, and individual tax returns
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, lender, and investor reporting requirements
- Assist with tax planning strategies related to real estate and family office activities
Management & Process Improvement
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff; review work for accuracy and completeness
- Establish and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Assist with audits, lender reporting, and due diligence requests
- Support system improvements, including accounting software and reporting tools
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred but not required)
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in real estateandproperty management.
- Strong knowledge of real estate accounting principles, including multi-entity and partnership structures
- Experience coordinating tax filings and working with external tax professionals
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Yardi, AppFolio, QuickBooks, or similar)
- Advanced Excel skills and strong financial analysis capabilities
