Job summary

DL² Search Partners is seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting for a PE-backed government services contractor post-carve-out. You will own GL, billing, AP, payroll, and controls, building a scalable finance operation from the ground up.

You will drive close processes, ensure compliance with US GAAP and FAR/CAS, and collaborate with auditors while mentoring a lean team to enable rapid growth.

Qualifications

• Experience with government contracting (FAR/CAS) and federal billing.
• Scale accounting ops in a PE-backed standalone business.
• CPA or public accounting background preferred.
• Deltek Costpoint experience highly desirable.
• Hands-on execution style with a track record of process improvements.

Responsibilities

• Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes per US GAAP.
• Direct all day-to-day accounting operations including billing, AP, payroll, and GL.
• Establish SOPs, internal controls, and reporting workflows for a standalone PE-owned entity.
• Manage audit preparation and coordination with external auditors and government agencies.
• Mentor and lead a lean accounting team as the business grows.

Job description

Our client, a ~$150M PE-backed government services contractor, is seeking an experienced, hands-on Controller to lead day-to-day accounting operations. Following a recent carve-out from a leading defense entity, our client is building a dedicated, standalone finance and accounting organization from the ground up.

Reporting directly to executive finance leadership, you will own our client’s full operational accounting engine—including GL, billing, AP, and payroll—while establishing robust internal controls and scaling a small, high-performing team as the business expands.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and FAR/CAS government contracting guidelines.
• Direct all day-to-day accounting operations, including billing, accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance.
• Establish standard operating procedures, internal controls, and reporting workflows tailored to standalone private equity ownership.
• Manage audit preparation and work closely with external auditors and government audit agencies.
• Help build, mentor, and lead a lean accounting team as our client continues to grow.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Government Contracting Experience: Required. Deep familiarity with federal billing, FAR/CAS standards, and government contract structures (Cost-Plus, T&M, FFP).
• Company Size Fit: Direct experience operating within a business generating between $150M and $250M in revenue.
• Public Accounting Background: Strong preference for CPA/public accounting experience.
• Systems: Experience with Deltek Costpoint is highly desirable.
• Execution Style: Extremely hands-on, builder mindset with a track record of driving process improvements.
