Job summary

Taylor White seeks a hands-on Controller in Tampa, FL, to own and scale the accounting function from the ground up. You will execute core entries, reconciliations, AP, payroll, and weekly analytics directly reporting to the CFO, with no senior accounting staff above you.

This high-visibility role combines execution with process improvement, system projects, and direct CPA engagement, in a fast-growth environment with a hybrid schedule and strong compensation.

Job description

This is a high-visibility Controller opportunity at a rapidly growing company. Reporting directly to a dynamic CFO, you will have real influence over how the accounting function is built, standardized, and scaled; making this an exceptional platform for a hands-on Controller who wants ownership, scope, and the ability to shape a finance organization from the ground up. This is explicitly a manager-and-doer role; there is no dedicated accounting staff above the transactional level, so you will execute core accounting functions independently while also driving process improvement, managing external CPA relationships, and delivering weekly financial reporting with analytics to the CFO. If you are a technically strong, hands-on Controller who is energized by building rather than maintaining and comfortable operating without a large team beneath you, this is a role worth your serious attention.

Key Responsibilities

• Record all journal entries and perform account reconciliations; this is a hands-on execution role, not a review-only seat.
• Process accounts payable and manage treasury functions across the organization.
• Prepare weekly financial reports with analytics for the CFO and executive leadership.
• Prepare internal monthly financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
• Manage the annual financial statement compilation and review process in partnership with the external CPA firm.
• Lead process improvement initiatives and small system projects to build a more scalable accounting function.
• Assume responsibility for payroll processing in the near term as the function continues to develop.

Requirements

• Hands-on, working Controller experience; you must be willing and able to execute core accounting functions independently, not just manage or review others doing them.
• Strong technical accounting skills: journal entries, account reconciliations, AP, and treasury functions.
• Demonstrated experience preparing GAAP-compliant financial statements.
• Ability to produce weekly financial reporting with analytics for executive leadership.
• Comfort operating independently without accounting staff support; this role requires self-sufficiency and confidence in your own execution.
• Proficiency with a cloud-based accounting platform; ability to learn and optimize new systems.

Preferred

• Experience in an operationally complex, high-transaction-volume industry.
• Payroll processing experience.
• Background in process improvement or systems implementation projects.
• CPA or equivalent credential.
