Job description

Are you an experienced accounting professional who enjoys being in the details but is ready to have a bigger impact? We are partnering with our client, a successful, family-owned construction company seeking a hands-on Controller to lead its accounting operations. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants the autonomy to run the financial side of a growing business, work directly with leadership, and be part of a down-to-earth, team-oriented environment.

Whether you're an established Controller or a strong accounting professional ready to take the next step, this opportunity offers the chance to make a meaningful contribution without the demands of an overly corporate environment.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Oversee daily accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and timely financial reporting.
  • Lead the month-end close process and prepare financial statements.
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Analyze financial performance and provide meaningful insights to company leadership.
  • Oversee payroll processing and assist with various HR-related functions.
  • Lead, support, and develop a small accounting team.
  • Maintain effective internal controls, accounting procedures, and reporting processes.
  • Identify potential financial concerns and proactively communicate recommendations to leadership.
  • Remain actively involved in day-to-day accounting responsibilities, stepping in wherever needed.
What They're Looking For
  • Construction accounting experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of general accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and month-end close.
  • Experience managing accounting operations with the ability to work independently.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence working directly with senior leadership.
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a willingness to roll up your sleeves.
  • Someone who takes pride in their work, values accountability, and doesn't believe any accounting task is beneath them.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
  • Established, growing business: Join a well-positioned construction company with a strong pipeline of projects.
  • Solid accounting foundation: Step into an organized accounting function with processes already in place and transition support available.
  • Direct leadership access: Work closely with decision-makers and have a meaningful voice in financial operations.
  • Autonomy and trust: Enjoy an environment where you're empowered to manage your responsibilities without micromanagement.
  • Work-life balance: A position designed around a reasonable, approximately 40-hour workweek.
  • Excellent health benefits: Employer-paid health insurance premiums for the employee.
  • Long-term opportunity: Become an important part of a stable, family-owned organization that values teamwork, dependability, and accountability.

If you're a construction accounting professional who enjoys both the big picture and the day-to-day details, this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for. We're looking for someone who brings financial expertise, a strong work ethic, and a team-first attitude to an organization where their contributions will truly matter.
