Job summary

Fortheight Construction is seeking an experienced Construction Controller to own accounting and financial operations for a stable, mid-sized general contractor. The role demands strategic vision, autonomy, and a hands-on approach to lead accounting processes and drive improved profitability.

You will manage job costing, WIP, revenue recognition, and forecasting while partnering with project managers and leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is required.
• Strong construction accounting experience with job costing and WIP.
• Experience with revenue recognition, cost-to-complete forecasting, and cash flow management.
• Ability to independently own the accounting function within a project-based organization.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close with financial statements and management reporting.
• Own construction accounting, job costing, WIP, revenue recognition, and margins.
• Partner with project managers on cost-to-complete projections and budgets.
• Monitor backlog, revenue, gross profit, cash flow, and overall financial performance.
• Maintain general ledger, reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and controls.
• Lead budgeting and forecasting with KPIs and leadership reporting.
• Oversee AP, AR, billing, collections, and related audits.
• Provide financial insight on equipment, staffing, investments, and strategic decisions.
• Manage direct report handling AP and payroll.
• Evaluate processes and propose improvements for efficiency and visibility.
• Collaborate with executive leadership as the financial voice of the business.

TheScope

This individual will be the primary accounting owner for an approximately $40M construction operation, supported by one AP/payroll professional.The company typically manages 3-4 active projects at a time, with individual project values ranging from approximately $2M–$10M and project durations ranging from six months to two years.Thisisahands-onControllerposition.YouneedtobeequallycomfortablediggingintojobcostingandWIPasyouaresittingwithleadershipanddiscussingforecasts,margins,risks,andopportunities.
