Controller | High-Growth Technology Company

Location: New York City

Compensation: $150,000–$180,000 Base + Equity

Work Arrangement: Hybrid

The Opportunity

We're partnering with a well-funded, high-growth technology company to identify a Controller who will bring its accounting function in-house and build it from the ground up. This is an opportunity for an experienced accounting leader who enjoys being hands-on while also having the technical expertise and business judgment to establish a sound accounting function for a rapidly scaling, increasingly complex organization.

Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will take ownership of accounting operations, financial reporting, and technical accounting while developing the processes, systems, and controls needed to support continued growth. Initially, this will be a highly hands‑on position, with the Controller personally managing much of the day‑to‑day work. Over time, the role will evolve to include building and leading an accounting team.

The ideal candidate is equally comfortable rolling up their sleeves and working directly with executive leadership. This person will understand how to balance the immediate needs of a growing business with the longer‑term requirements of a scalable, well‑controlled accounting function.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the transition from outsourced accounting to an in‑house function, establishing the processes, systems, and infrastructure needed to support growth.
• Own the monthly close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and day‑to‑day accounting operations.
• Develop and maintain sound accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Oversee technical accounting matters, including fixed assets, depreciation, capital investments, and financing arrangements.
• Partner directly with the CFO and company leadership to provide accurate financial information and support business decisions.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting systems, reporting, and operational efficiency as the organization scales.
• Build, hire, and develop the accounting team over time.

Qualifications

• Strong accounting leadership experience, ideally at the Controller, Assistant Controller, or Director of Accounting level.
• Experience in an early‑stage, high‑growth, or similarly dynamic business environment, with demonstrated success building or scaling accounting processes.
• Strong technical accounting expertise and the ability to independently manage complex accounting matters.
• Experience with fixed assets, depreciation, and capital‑intensive business models.
• Debt financing experience is highly desirable.
• Exposure to usage‑based or consumption‑based revenue models is a plus.
• Experience in technology, infrastructure, or other asset‑intensive industries is particularly relevant.
• Ability to operate effectively as a hands‑on individual contributor while building a function designed to support future growth.

A CPA designation and public accounting experience are not required.
