Help Build the Accounting Infrastructure of a Growing Public Company

Our client is a rapidly growing public company operating in a highly regulated, capital-intensive industry. As the organization expands organically and through strategic acquisitions, it is seeking an experienced Controller to help build and scale the accounting infrastructure supporting its next stage of growth.

Reporting directly to the CFO, you’ll lead corporate accounting with significant ownership across SEC reporting, technical accounting, SOX/ICFR, acquisitions, consolidation, external audit, systems, and team development.

This is an opportunity to build rather than simply maintain—with direct CFO exposure, complex technical work, and meaningful influence over how the accounting organization evolves.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Direct CFO Partnership with significant ownership and visibility.
  • Build & Scale accounting processes, controls, systems, and team.
  • M&A Exposure spanning diligence, purchase accounting, and integration.
  • Complex Technical Accounting within an evolving public-company environment.
  • International Exposure across a growing multi-entity organization.
  • Equity Participation through RSUs.

What You’ll Own

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close, consolidation, intercompany accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare and review consolidated financial statements, disclosures, and supporting documentation
  • Partner with the CFO on 10-Ks, 10-Qs, and registration statements.
  • Research and document complex technical accounting matters, including acquisitions, consolidation, R&D, stock compensation, leases, and equity instruments.
  • Lead accounting integration for acquisitions and support financial due diligence, purchase accounting, and opening balance sheets.
  • Own the SOX 404/404(b) internal control environment, including controls, documentation, remediation, and expansion to acquired entities.
  • Serve as the primary accounting contact for external auditors and coordinate with tax, valuation, SOX, and other specialized advisors.
  • Evaluate and enhance accounting systems, processes, automation, and reporting capabilities.
  • Build, mentor, and develop the accounting team as the organization grows.

What You’ll Bring

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and an active CPA license.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with significant public-company/SEC registrant experience.
  • Hands-on ownership of SEC reporting, including 10-Ks, 10-Qs, and related disclosures.
  • Direct experience with SOX 404 and 404(b) external auditor attestation.
  • Strong U.S. GAAP and technical accounting expertise.
  • Multi-entity consolidation and foreign currency experience.
  • Experience managing external audit relationships.
  • Strong ERP/financial reporting systems and advanced Excel skills.

Highly Valued

  • Big 4 or national public accounting background combined with industry experience.
  • ASC 805 purchase accounting and acquisition integration.
  • Cross-border/international accounting experience.
  • Experience in a capital-intensive, development-stage, highly regulated, or technically complex organization.
  • ERP implementation or systems transformation experience.
  • Experience building and developing accounting teams.

$190K-$220K base salary + Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) and a competitive benefits package.

This position is based in the company's New York City headquarters and is fully in-office.

If you’re an accomplished public-company accounting leader looking for greater ownership, direct CFO exposure, sophisticated technical accounting work, and the opportunity to help shape an accounting organization during a significant period of growth, we’d like to hear from you.

Our client is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.
