Job summary

Buxbaum is looking for a Controller located in Los Angeles, California. Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Own and manage the full accounting cycle for client organizations, including general ledger management, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll oversight
• Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes with accuracy and efficiency
• Prepare, review, and present financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Implement, optimize, or migrate ERP systems including NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms
• Develop and enforce internal controls, accounting policies, and standardized financial procedures
• Deliver cash flow management, budgeting support, forecasting, and variance analysis
• Manage and mentor client-side accounting staff, providing guidance and process improvement recommendations
• Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, banks, and other third-party stakeholders on behalf of clients
• Support audit readiness, M&A due diligence, and fundraising processes as needed
• Serve as a trusted financial advisor to client leadership teams and boards, communicating results and insights clearly and effectively

Qualifications

• 10+ years of accounting experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a seated Controller role
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Proven experience managing the full accounting cycle independently and under tight deadlines
• Hands-on experience with one or more ERP systems (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Enterprise, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, or equivalent)
• Strong command of GAAP and financial reporting standards
• Experience working across multiple industries or client types
• Demonstrated ability to build or improve accounting teams and internal control environments
• Excellent communication skills able to translate complex financial data for non-financial audiences
• Self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment with high attention to detail and accuracy

Salary & Benefits

The base salary for this position ranges from $170,000 to $200,000 per year, depending on various factors, including education and experience.
