Controller with Manufacturing Experience
- Great Opportunity to Work with Leadership!
- Opportunity for Career Growth!
We are seeking an experienced Controller with a strong manufacturing accounting background to lead the company's accounting and financial reporting functions. This position requires a hands-on financial leader who understands the complexities of a manufacturing environment, including Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), inventory accounting, cost accounting, standard costing, and operational financial analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, fixed assets, inventory, and cost accounting.
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare and review financial statements, including the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement.
- Manage and analyze COGS, gross margins, and manufacturing costs, identifying trends, discrepancies, and cost-saving opportunities.
- Oversee inventory accounting and valuation, including raw materials, work-in-process (WIP), finished goods, reserves, and obsolete or slow-moving inventory.
- Manage standard costing and product costing, including direct materials, labor, manufacturing overhead, and landed costs.
- Analyze standard versus actual costs and investigate material, labor, overhead, and other manufacturing variances.
- Partner with operations and manufacturing leadership to analyze production costs, efficiencies, scrap, waste, labor utilization, and profitability.
- Manage physical inventory counts and cycle-counting programs, investigate discrepancies, and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and working-capital management, including budget-to-actual analysis.
- Lead ERP implementations with new systems as needed.
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures while ensuring compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations.
- Coordinate financial audits and serve as a key contact for external auditors, tax professionals, banks, and other financial partners.
- Maintain the integrity of the ERP/accounting system and drive improvements in financial reporting, processes, controls, and automation.
- Provide senior leadership with financial analysis, KPIs, and actionable insights to support pricing, profitability, capital expenditures, cost reduction, and strategic business decisions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Progressive accounting leadership experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar role.
- Manufacturing accounting experience required.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of COGS, cost accounting, inventory accounting, standard costing, variance analysis, and gross margin analysis.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems in a manufacturing environment and leading ERP implementations.
- Advanced Excel, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to partner effectively with both finance and operations/manufacturing leadership.
- CPA or CMA is a plus, but not required.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is more than a traditional financial-reporting Controller. We are looking for someone who understands how activity on the manufacturing floor ultimately impacts the financial statements
This individual should be comfortable leading ERP implementations, digging into inventory, product costs, labor and overhead variances, COGS, gross margins, and partnering with operations to understand why the numbers changed, not simply reporting that they changed.
