Job summary

Dyno Nobel, Inc. is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to lead the design, commissioning, and operation of automation for a new TNT manufacturing facility.

You will guide DCS, SIS, PLCs, and industrial networks from front-end through startup and into long-term operation. You will ensure safety and reliability through IEC 61511 practices, support FAT/SAT, and drive lifecycle improvements for control systems while collaborating with a cross-functional team on site in Kentucky.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical, Control Systems, or Automation Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting industrial automation and control systems in chemical manufacturing, petrochemical, refining, explosives, or other continuous process industries.
  • Experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), PLCs, HMI/SCADA systems, and industrial communication networks.
  • Knowledge of IEC 61511 / functional safety principles
  • Working knowledge of IEC 61511, Functional Safety, SIL assessments, and Safety Instrumented Systems.
  • Commissioning and startup experience preferred
  • Must be willing to undergo and pass an ATF background check as required to be a possessor of explosives

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for DCS, SIS, PLCs, industrial networks, and Functional Safety ensuring safe, reliable operation.
  • Assure control system architecture, design, and engineering deliverables from FEED through detailed design and implementation.
  • Review and provide input on EPCM control philosophies, diagrams, specifications, and control system documentation.
  • Ensure alignment with Dyno Nobel standards, cybersecurity requirements, and automation industry practices.
  • Support SIS design assurance, SIL determinations, and validation activities per IEC 61511.
  • Provide technical support during installation activities, including instrument installation and loop checks.
  • Lead FAT, SAT, commissioning, startup, and control system validation activities for DCS, SIS, and PLCs.
  • Support troubleshooting, tuning, optimization, and upgrades of control systems for reliability.
  • Develop and optimize alarm management strategies and operator interfaces.
