Job summary

Travelers seeks an AVP, Underwriting Officer, Construction, to lead regional underwriting strategy with a combined home office and field underwriting team, driving profitability and growth across the region.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of commercial underwriting experience in guaranteed cost and loss sensitive construction risk, with strong leadership, collaboration, and risk-awareness in a regulated market.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Ten or more years of commercial underwriting experience with experience in guaranteed cost and loss sensitive construction risk.
• Expert level knowledge of risk appetite and risk selection, construction risk products, as well as the regulatory environment and local insurance marketplace.
• Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to proactively identify underwriting and financial challenges and analyze available information to make timely decisions in alignment with risk appetite.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to lead and influence others.
• Strong team building and inclusive leadership skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal and external partners.

Responsibilities

• Design and drive underwriting strategies and practices for regional profit and growth.
• Oversee underwriting execution through complex individual risk and portfolio CUREs and evaluate underwriter proficiency and quality.
• Lead development of underwriting capabilities and best practices via coaching and trainings.
• Monitor regional trends, issues, and results to shape regional strategies and partner with home office leadership.
• Provide coaching, training, and performance management where needed.
