Job summary

Jobot is seeking a Construction Staff Accountant in Torrington, CT, on-site and permanent. You will manage day-to-day accounting for construction projects, including AP/AR, GL, and reconciliations.

This role links accounting with project costs, job costing, purchasing, and billing while ensuring GAAP compliance and ERP system accuracy. A bachelor's in accounting plus 3–5 years of experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
• 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Construction, contracting, engineering, heavy civil, infrastructure, or project-based accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Solid understanding of general ledger accounting, accruals, AP/AR, and financial statement preparation.
• Familiarity with job costing, project accounting, cost tracking, or construction financial reporting is highly desirable.
• Working knowledge of GAAP and standard accounting practices.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience working within accounting or ERP systems.
• Experience with construction-focused ERP platforms is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger transactions, and bank reconciliations.
• Prepare and review financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reporting.
• Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate variances or discrepancies.
• Support monthly and year-end financial close processes.
• Assist with construction-related accounting, project costs, job costing, purchasing, and billing activities.
• Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for audits and tax reporting.
• Maintain fixed asset records, depreciation schedules, and related documentation.
• Assist with sales and use tax filings and other applicable state and federal reporting requirements.
• Maintain accurate financial information within the company's accounting and ERP systems.
• Support compliance with GAAP, internal accounting policies, and applicable regulations.
• Partner with operations and other departments to improve accounting processes, reporting, and financial controls.
• Assist with special projects and additional accounting initiatives as needed.
