Job summary

HNTB is seeking an intern to support construction site field and office activities during project phases. You will assist the Resident Engineer and project team, maintain drawings and specs, and coordinate quality control inspections.

This paid internship provides exposure to testing, reporting, and daily field operations. Requirements include an associates degree or bachelor’s in construction management or related field, plus 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in relevant field and 2 years relevant experience, or
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field.
• Reads and understands plans and specifications.
• Calculates pay quantities.
• Understands change conditions.
• Applies basic math skills to projects and tasks.
• Understands Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer skills.
• Understands project document control (RFIs, submittals, payments) with guidance.

Responsibilities

• Performs office management engineer work: prepares meeting agendas/minutes, tracks RFIs/submittals/pay estimates/deliverables.
• Assists construction field work tasks to ensure conformance to plans/specs; coordinates quality controls inspections.
• Observes on-site material testing and coordinates testing/monitoring services.
• Performs calculations for material quantities/payments.
• Reviews shop drawings for compliance with plans and specs.
• Reads construction drawings/specifications and identifies discrepancies.
• Reviews contractor daily reports and documents progress with video/photos.
• Consults with Resident Engineer on progress and resolves issues; liaises with engineer of record.
• Gains exposure to new tech/tools (GPS/Rovers) to improve inspection efficiency.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
